HOW ARLAINE ROCKEY FIRST BECAME INVOLVED IN THE POST-RATIFICATION FIGHT TO HAVE THE ERA RECOGNIZED AS VALID AND PUBLISHED AS THE 28th AMENDMENT TO THE US CONSTITUTION.
In 2020, a former Protective Mother client of hers contacted Arlaine Rockey to ask her if she would be willing to write the Amicus Brief for EQUAL MEANS EQUAL, et al. v. FERRIERO, the Archivist of the U.S., after he refused to publish the ERA, after it was fully ratified on 1/27/2020. That was also when she got to know the dedicated people working on publication!
Read the Amicus brief Arlaine Rockey submitted to the Supreme Court in 2020 in an EME case, which also talks about the history of women’s rights in the United States, with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who led the first wave of the suffragist and equal rights for women movement for over fifty years with Susan B. Anthony. It also has important information about why women do not have equal political power in the U.S., even after having the right to vote for over 100 years! That is just one more important reason women must have the ERA validated by the U.S. Supreme Court!

AN INSIDE LOOK AT HOW THE ERA WAS FINALLY RATIFIED!
The ERA was fully-ratified and legally became the 28th Amendment to the US Constitution on January 27, 2020, when Virginia, the 38th and last required state per Article V of the Constitution, ratified the ERA. In 2016, Equal Means Equal used its documentary to convince the 3 final states needed to ratify the ERA. It involved many coalitions working together to get the last 3 states. Kamala Lopez and Natalie White (EME VP) moved to VA to work on the ground to help make it happen after Nevada and Illinois ratified. This dynamic, multi-cultural, and emotional history should be shared with everyone.
